English as an Additional Language (EAL)

At Wheatfield Primary we are proud to be a multi-cultural school. We have a thriving and diverse community which welcomes children and their families from all over the world, including Poland, Romania, Pakistan, China, India and Egypt.

World

Nearly 45% of our children have English as an Additional Language (EAL) and therefore we work hard to ensure that they can access the curriculum, enjoy school life and reach their full potential. Our EAL Teaching Assistant provides intervention sessions and classroom support to those children who require extra help. They may be new to English or need support to make further progress in a particular area. Most importantly, they are encouraged to understand that bilingualism is an asset!

Celebrating diversity is at the heart of what we do at Wheatfield Primary and can be appreciated all around the school. It is incorporated into our values and the curriculum to enrich learning and embrace differences.
